Dani and his Deutsch

The Spanish right-back has been reunited with Kamila Benschop, his German teacher from Leverkusen.

Eleven years ago, Dani Carvajal's career reached a turning point with his move to the Bundesliga. A loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen took the player from Leganes away from the Spanish capital to become one of the star players in the German league, before returning to Real Madrid, making his debut for the Spanish national team and reaching the pinnacle of world football.

Dani's widely appreciated dedication, commitment and professionalism have taken him to the top, something that has by no means been limited to his footballing performance on the pitch.

During his time in Germany, the national team player made a serious attempt to master the German language, and this Wednesday in Donaueschingen he was reunited with Kamila Benschop, who was his language teacher eleven years ago.

We miss him a lot," explains Kamila, "and sometimes we remember that at the time he wanted to play for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, while I wanted to be a reporter and interview him. Today we have both achieved our goals and I am very happy about it".

Cavajal, for his part, admits to having "somewhat forgotten" German, but this Wednesday at the Donaueschingen Media Centre, he dared to say a few sentences in front of the  MagentaTV cameras, the German channel where Kamila is currently one of the leading reporters.

A nice personal and linguistic reunion provoked by a European Championships clash that this Friday pits the Germans and Spaniards against each other in Stuttgart for a place in the semi-finals.
