HM King Felipe VI shows his support for the National Team in Gelsenkirchen

The president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, and the captain of the team, Álvaro Morata, presented a shirt to the Head of State, who congratulated the players and coaching staff.

 

An evening of happiness for the whole of Spain on Thursday in the German town of Gelsenkirchen, the scene of the national team's famous victory over Italy, which means a place in the Last 16 of the European Championships for the team coached by Luis de la Fuente.

Among the spectators at the match against Italy was His Majesty King Felipe VI, who watched the match accompanied by the presidents of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, and the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Soares Gomes da Silva.

At the end of the match, the monarch visited Spain's dressing room in Gelsenkirchen with Pedro Rocha, congratulating the players and the coaching staff led by Luis de la Fuente one by one.

It was then the turn of captain Álvaro Morata and the president of the RFEF to present the King with a personalised shirt bearing the name ‘Felipe VI’, who has just celebrated a decade since his coronation as constitutional King of Spain.

A resounding round of applause rounded off the royal visit to the dressing room of a national team that will return to their European Championships base camp in the German town of Donaueschingen this Friday.
