Irene Paredes leads the Spanish comeback

The captain was strong at set pieces when the team needed her most and ended up contributing enormously to Spain’s qualification for the 2025 European Championships.

It is at the most difficult moments that teams turn to their true leaders. The match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López was a clear example of this. Spain were two goals down against Denmark and someone had to step up and be counted.

That's where Irene Paredes comes in to do the business for her country, scoring off two corner kicks (one of which ended up being tapped in by birthday girl Bruna Vilamala) to score the two goals needed to get Spain back in the game and put them in the position for Lucía García to nick a winner late on. The centre back stepped up for her national team and became one of the key players in the comeback and the team's qualification for the next European Championships.
