Montse Tomé: ‘These players have something that makes you fall in love’.

Misa Rodríguez, who also appeared before the media at the press conference, was very excited at the prospect of playing for the national team in the Canary Islands, where tomorrow Spain will be looking for a victory against Denmark.

Minutes before the official  Spanish national team training session at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Tenerife, Montse Tomé and Misa Rodríguez took questions from journalists about tomorrow's Euro 2025 qualifying match between Spain and Denmark.

The goalkeeper explained how important it is for her to come to the Canary Islands with the national team: ‘It means a lot to me. When I played in Gran Canaria I always dreamed of seeing matches or players who played on the mainland and I wasn't lucky enough to see them in person every weekend. Being here today is a source of pride because many girls will be able to see us. A lot of people from my family will be travelling to the match.

She believes that little by little the Canary Islands will provide the national team with more and more Canarian talent and advises all the girls not to give up on fulfilling their dreams: ‘Any Canarian wants to play on her local island. I am ready and available for the team. If I am picked to play tomorrow, I will be totally ready. I would tell all the girls to believe. I left the island late, and at 17, I never thought I would have this opportunity. I want to tell them that life can change for them like it changed for me and that they continue chasing their dreams, that they shouldn't give up because they can achieve them.

As for the last match against Denmark, in which Spain put in an impressive performance, she recognises that the key to winning the three points again will be staying true to their style of play: ‘I expect a tough game. They had some very good counter-attacks. We expect them to press high up the pitch and the key will be to play our game so that we can score a lot of goals.

For her part, Montse Tomé highlighted how comfortable the national team has felt during this period of training in Tenerife and hopes that the icing on the cake will be the fans at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López cheering them on from the stands against Denmark: ‘Since we arrived in Tenerife we've felt totally at ease. The people have come to show us their support and the facilities have been very good. The training pitch is good so we are delighted. We hope that the stadium can count on a lot of fans and that they will push us when the team needs them.

Finally, she pointed out how important it is that the number of fans who come to watch the national team's matches continues to grow as it has been and acknowledged that the players are largely responsible for this growth in popularity of the women’s national team: ‘It's a very good thing for women's football in Spain. This says a lot about the organisation. We are taking steps forward. There are more and more spectators. During every international window we've managed to exceed the (previous record) number of spectators. People keep on coming to watch the national team. The players are the reason for this because they have something that makes you fall in love with them. We must continue to maintain this because it is our duty. We are very grateful for this and we hope it stays this way.

❝Es una buena señal que las personas sigan repitiendo y vuelvan a venir a ver a la Selección. Eso dice mucho de ellas, hacen un fútbol que enamora❞
