Simeone: "I'm happy with how we played"

The Atletico Madrid coach is grateful for the Saudi fans’ support, which his team felt "throughout the match", saying "It makes us grow as a club".

Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, wanted to highlight the significance of the performance his team put in. The Argentine coach applauded his players’ performance for "the feeling of always being strong" in comments minutes after losing 5-3 against Real Madrid, whom he described as "fair winners".

Simeone could not deny the physical toll the 120 minutes of the match had on his team, and praised the play of their opponents, complimenting them as "one of the best teams in the world that, at least today, we have managed to compete with". Real Madrid are a rival that he will go up against again very soon in various derby matches, in various competitions - the first of which, next Thursday, in the Copa del Rey -, which he says he’s treating like "any other match": "In football there is no revenge", he claimed.

 

The Atleti coach also wanted to thank the support his team felt from the Al-Awwal stands: "It's very important for the growth of the club," he reflected, noting the "strength" that, in his opinion, the passionate support his players felt throughout the match. "I think coming to Arabia does us a lot of good to keep bringing fans closer and I'm very happy with the support we've received," he indicated.
