“Sydney 2023” - a new space at the Ciudad del Fútbol dedicated to the World Cup champions

One of the rooms of the residence will be named after the city where the Spanish National Team won its World Cup winners’ star in the final of the Women's World Cup.

The RFEF Board of Directors, having today met under the recently appointed chair, Pedro Rocha, has approved the renaming of one of the rooms at the residence of the Ciudad del Fútbol “Sydney 2023”, in recognition of the champions and which is also another step towards gender equality, through symbolically important actions such as these.

The home of the Spanish National Team at Ciudad del Fútbol will pay tribute to the players and the team that won the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time for Spanish football, following the agreement adopted by the Board of Directors of the Royal Spanish Football Federation held on Friday, May 9, 2024.

The Board approved that one of the rooms in the residence of the federation's headquarters, where all national teams are accommodated during international meetups, be renamed “Sydney 2023”. The reference evokes memories of when Spain won the women's world Cup. This room joins the one already named “Johannesburg 2010”, which commemorates the Spanish men's national team's victory at the World Cup in South Africa.

The RFEF continues to work every day to give continuous recognition to the athletes and sports teams who have become role models in our society, breaking down barriers and opening new pathways towards social equality.
