The RFEF donates 135 boxes of clothes and sports equipment to Mensajeros de la Paz Association

Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, has welcomed Padre Ángel, founder of the NGO, at Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) handed over 135 boxes of clothing and sports equipment to the NGO Mensajeros de la Paz on Monday. Padre Ángel, founder and president of this charity organisation, was greeted at Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas by Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, who handed over the federation's donation.

The donation is comprised of men's and women's clothing, including coats and anoraks, polo shirts, sweatshirts, tracksuits, shorts and thermal T-shirts, as well as other equipment such as footballs and backpacks. This will be distributed by Mensajeros de la Paz, from its facilities in Ribera de Curtidores (Madrid), to the people in extreme need with whom this NGO collaborates.

Luis Rubiales: "We are delighted and we know that these clothes will be put to good use".

The President of the RFEF highlighted the work of Mensajeros de la Paz: "We know Padre Ángel and we have tried to help in the most difficult moments. These clothes will be distributed among the most deprived and vulnerable because almost everything goes to children. A child who wears a T-shirt has that T-shirt but it also has the shield of our national team".

Most of the material will go to projects in our country, such as those for the homeless or the social canteens they manage; but some of it will be sent to the Mensajeros project in Marka (Amman), in a centre where refugees from the war in Iraq, many of them Christians, live. In total, there are about 200 families there, who were taken by Mensajeros de la Paz.

Padre Ángel, founder and president of the NGO Mensajeros de la Paz says: "A better world is possible and this is the evidence of it. This material is going to make the kids very happy, being able to wear a t-shirt like the one they will wear from now on".

The donation of this material is part of the Social Responsibility and Sustainability policy developed by the RFEF, which has already made several deliveries of discontinued sports clothing from the different national teams and this institution. This is a similar action to the one carried out through the Community of Madrid's Citizen Protection at the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine. A truckload of clothing was delivered for refugees who arrived in our country fleeing the war.

In this case, the donation was organised through Mensajeros de la Paz, a lay NGO founded by Padre Ángel, which is involved in many areas of social work in Spain, and in international cooperation projects in America, Africa and Asia. Specifically, in Spain, its action includes works for the protection of abandoned children; promotion of women who are victims of gender violence; integration of the immigrant population; and comprehensive care for families without resources and homeless people, among other issues.

Together with Padre Ángel, Sergio Mella, vice-president of Mensajeros de la Paz, and Pedro Blasco, NGO's collaborator, also attended the event.
