CHRONICLE | The Spanish national team glimpses a bright future (7-0)

The first match of the women's national team in Melilla results in a stunning victory against Argentina.

The motto of the Spanish Women's National Team says: #JugarLucharYGanar. And that is precisely what the team led by Jorge Vilda did in Melilla. They played very well in front of enthusiastic fans at Municipal Álvarez Claro stadium. They fought every ball until the end, and they won doing their best against Argentina, champion of America.

The match started with three debutants (Salma, María Méndez and Enith Salon) on the pitch. The national team, delighted after winning against United States in their last match, had the possession of the ball from the beginning to the end. They offered such a great game in front of Melilla fans. Premises were clear: verticality, a strong defence and confidence in all positions.

After fifteen minutes, the Spanish players showed their immense potential and they were even more eager to score with the first goal from Alba Redondo. She headed into the back of the goal after an extraordinary pass from Maite Oroz. The goal was a well-deserved reward for the way they were playing and the chances. The match had just begun.

Maite Oroz made it 2-0 in the 28th minute with a subtle shot after a great action by Marta Cardona. Salma with a tight chut preceded by a superb control (36') and an accurate shot at the far post (38') finished an amazing first half at individual and collective levels.

Despite the goals scored, the players led by Vilda were determined to keep the pressure being the opponents’ goal their main objective. They finally scored two goals more thanks to the great action of Athenea, who was very powerful since the moment she started to play, and Inma Gabarro, a warrior capable of proving her mettle in her first match with the national team.

During the match, Salma, María Méndez, Enith, Fiamma, Alejandra Bernabé, Ana Tejada and Inma Gabarro made their official debuts with the Spanish national team.

It was a perfect match with plenty of chances. A match with seven debuts and a match that shows the great progress of the team. It was the penultimate match of 2022, which confirms the team's dominant style of play.

Japan will be the next opponent on 15 November in La Cartuja.
