OFFICIAL STATEMENT | Costa Rica, fourth selection of group E in the World Cup in Qatar
Spain has met the last of its World Cup rivals after the play-off on Tuesday in Doha.
Spain's group at the World Cup in Qatar will be completed by Costa Rica, who will join Germany and Japan on the list of opponents for Luis Enrique's squad. The list of nations that will compete in the FIFA World Cup has been confirmed following the playoff game played this Tuesday in Doha, which finished with a 1-0 win for Costa Rica.
Costa Rica therefore joins Australia, who earned a spot in group D after defeating Peru on Monday.
The Costa Rican squad, coached by Colombian Luis Fernando Suárez, combines new talents with senior players who are used to pressure and achieved history by making it to the semifinals in Brazil 2014. Young talents may be found alongside Keylor Navas, Bryan Ruiz, and Celso Borges on a team that has made defensive security a trademark of its game. In addition, Joel Campbell's strike creates an extremely scary pace for his opponents.
Costa Rica will compete in their sixth World Cup, its third in a row, and is ranked 31st by FIFA.
