REPORT | The Spanish team gives way and will play for the leadership in Braga (1-2)

Goals from Akanji and Embolo from corners are decisive at La Romareda

Sometimes having the best scenario with the fans in full swing and an absolute control of the game is not enough to win.

This is what happened to the Spanish national football team on Saturday. They dominated the game in the Nations League match against Switzerland with more than 30,000 fans in Romareda.

All this, with 70% of the possession and the best chances of the match were not enough due to two set pieces and the strong defense of the Swiss in Zaragoza.

A header from Akanji gave Murat Yakin's team the lead after 20 minutes, against the Spanish team, which tried it without luck until half-time.

After the half-time, Luis Enrique's team reacted with a great run by Marco Asensio and a left-footed shot by Jordi Alba to level the score at the beginning of the second half, closer to get back in.

However, another corner from Akanji was to be taken by Embolo to put Switzerland back in front from a very effective set-piece.

Borja Iglesias and Nico Williams made their debut with Spain crushing Sommer's goal until Carlos Soler's late shot was saved by the Swiss goalkeeper.

It was 1-2 at the end and now the Spanish team was in the driving seat: a win against Portugal in Braga on Tuesday would send Luis Enrique's team to the 'final four' of the Nations Cup for the second time.
