RTVE will broadcast Copa del Rey until 2025

RTVE has acquired the broadcasting rights to the championship and will broadcast 15 matches each season

On Monday, the RFEF's audiovisual rights management committee agreed to award Lot 1B of the Copa de SM el Rey tender to RTVE, which has been assigned the broadcasting rights to the championship for three years (2022-2025). As a result of this award, RTVE will broadcast 15 free-to-air matches each season (two of each round, the four semi-finals and the final).

After the good viewing figures achieved by this championship in recent years, the public broadcaster has bet on this major event. The winning bidder for the remaining matches will be known soon as the sale process is in its second round.

Copa del Rey has skyrocketed in value in all markets. The change of format promoted three years ago by the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, has proved its effectiveness. In the next three seasons, the RFEF will even be able to reach a revenue of over 120 million euros from the national and international sale of Copa del Rey rights.

The increase has almost tripled in comparison to the amount received by the RFEF at the arrival of the new management team in 2018. At that time, when the LNFP marketed the Copa del Rey rights, the RFEF received 15 million euros per season. Now, the average for the next three seasons will probably exceed 40 million euros, with sales in all markets.
