The historic win over Costa Rica on Wednesday makes Spain leaders of Group E after the first matchday.
Japan finished as runners-up after a stunning comeback against Germany, which left the Germans on the brink of elimination.
Spain will play against Hansi Flick's national team next Sunday in Jor. They would be qualified in case they win.
The current group standings are as follows:
