Clone of Rain-Soaked Training Session in Chattanooga
The players took to the training pitch at Baylor School at 6:00 p.m. local time (midnight in mainland Spain) beneath overcast skies, although there was initially no sign of rain. The session, which was open to the media for the first 15 minutes, began with the squad forming a guard of honour for the day’s birthday celebrants: Rodri, Mikel Merino, and head coach Luis de la Fuente, who had celebrated his birthday the previous day.
Following a brief warm-up and the customary rondos, the threatening skies over Chattanooga finally opened. A severe thunderstorm, accompanied by torrential rain and intense lightning activity, swept across the area. As a precaution, and in accordance with United States severe-weather safety protocols, the players quickly left the pitch while the downpour flooded sections of the training ground and made it impossible to continue the planned session outdoors.
The team subsequently relocated indoors, where the players continued their preparations in the gym ahead of their final group-stage fixture against Uruguay.
The match is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Friday morning (Saturday in local Spanish time) at the stadium in Guadalajara, where Spain will seek to secure qualification and confirm its position at the top of Group H.
