Sonia Bermúdez: “We Are Happy with the Performance”
Her assessment of the match: “We wanted to have the ball and stay true to our style. We started the match really well, with plenty of dynamism, and scored twice very early on. In the second half, we were able to bring on eight fresh players, including four making their debuts, so we are happy with the performance.”
On the United States: “They are an extremely tough opponent and, fortunately, both Nanclares and the defensive line put in outstanding performances. Adri was superb, but we know that the United States can punish you severely whenever you lose possession.”
A clash between two powerhouses: “There are moments for everything in such a closely contested match. The positive thing is that the team knew how to do the job in attack and dig deep when necessary.”
On Emma Hayes: “We analyse Emma’s matches as a coach and look for ways to hurt her team while remaining true to our style. It was very difficult because her players provide excellent cover for one another, but we are happy with the result and are already focused on the second match.”
The atmosphere in Washington and the team’s time in D.C.: “It has been spectacular. I had never visited Washington before, and it is a beautiful city. I knew how much people here support the sport, and having a full stadium today was incredible.”
On Adriana Nanclares: “We are not surprised to see Adri at this level because we watch her train and play for her club. We knew she was ready, and she delivered a fantastic performance.”
