Luis de la Fuente will never forget the Under-21 European Championship from four years ago in Italy, which ended with a Spanish victory in the final in Udine against Germany.

With the current senior team coach on the bench, Spain kicked off that tournament by facing Italy in Bologna, with Dutch referee Serdar Gözübüyük officiating the match.

This Thursday, this referee born in Haarlem, who will turn 38 this month, will reunite with the Spanish coach in the crucial qualifying match against Scotland at La Cartuja stadium in Seville.

The Dutch referee will be assisted by his compatriots Erwin Zeinstra and Johan Balder on the sidelines, with Marc Nagtegaal as the fourth official, and Pol van Boekel alongside Clay Ruperti in the VAR room.

The Seville stadium will be attentive to the whistle of this referee, who was the youngest to officiate a top-tier match in the Netherlands and who already refereed last year's duel in which Spain won 1-0 against Switzerland in Geneva during the UEFA Nations League match.

A good precedent for the national team, which is playing this week to potentially secure their qualification for the final phase of the Eurocopa, to be held in Germany next year.
