112 Teams to Learn Their Opponents in the First Round of the Copa del Rey Mapfre

The 122nd edition of the Spanish Championship – Copa de S.M. el Rey – will mark one of its milestone moments on Monday, October 6, at 13:00, with the draw for the first round of the competition taking place in the Luis Aragonés Hall at the City of Football.

The draw will be broadcast live through the official channels of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and on Teledeporte

This opening draw gathers the largest number and the most diverse range of clubs, bringing together 112 teams from across Spain. Among them are ten sides from regional categories, who secured their place through a preliminary round concluding this Saturday.

These regional teams will be paired with clubs from the First Division, following the newly introduced principle of geographical proximity. This adjustment aims to heighten the excitement of the first two rounds by ensuring more localized and competitive matchups.

In practice, the draw will divide the Spanish territory into four geographical groups, from which the 56 pairings of the first round will be determined. The matches are scheduled to be played between Tuesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 30.

Alongside the principle of proximity, the draw also ensures that lower-division teams are paired with higher-division clubs. In every case, the lower-division team will host the single-leg tie.

The four clubs participating in the Spanish Super Cup – FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Atlético de Madrid, and Athletic Club – will be exempt from this round.
