Neither the cold nor the rain could stop another memorable Copa del Rey night, as Athletic Club, Burgos CF and Real Betis Balompié all sealed their places in the Round of 16.

O Couto and El Plantío set the stage for the third matchday of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE Round of 32. The Galician venue once again proved to be one of the toughest grounds in the competition, where Ourense CF (Primera Federación Versus e-Learning) pushed Athletic Club — a LaLiga side and one of the Supercopa participants — to the limit. Played under heavy rain, the contest showcased the determination of both teams, with the Lions finally breaking through in extra time thanks to a stunning strike from Jauregizar.

The biggest upset of the night came at the hands of Burgos CF, who eliminated top-flight Getafe CF. Goals from David González (from the penalty spot) and a brace by Íñigo Córdoba completed a comeback after a spectacular opener from Álex Sancris.

The final team to progress was Real Betis Balompié, who overcame a spirited Real Murcia CF side at a packed Enrique Roca Stadium. A goal from Cucho was enough to secure the last Round of 16 ticket of the night for the Verdiblancos.

With 15 of the 16 Round of 16 teams now confirmed, the final spot will be decided on January 6, when Granada CFhost Rayo Vallecano at Los Cármenes.
