ROUND-UP | Atlético Seal the Final Semi-final Spot
Simeone’s side thrash Betis (0–5) to join Barça, Real Sociedad and Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The draw takes place this Friday.
REAL BETIS BALOMPIÉ 0–5 ATLÉTICO DE MADRID
Atlético de Madrid wrapped up their quarter-final tie against Real Betis in under 40 minutes. By the 37th minute, Simeone’s side were already 0–3 up after a devastating first-half display that swept the hosts aside.
Early goals from Hancko, Giuliano Simeone and Lookman — who marked his debut with a goal and made an instant impact — effectively settled the contest before the break.
The second half only added to Betis’ misery, as Antoine Griezmann and Argentine midfielder Almada completed the rout to cap a memorable night for Atlético.
The four semi-finalists are now confirmed: FC Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club and Atlético de Madrid will all be in Friday’s draw, each dreaming of lifting the Copa del Rey 2025/26.
VALENCIA CF 1–2 ATHLETIC CLUB
In a dramatic tie decided at the death, Athletic Club booked their place in the semi-finals with a last-gasp victory at Mestalla. Iñaki Williams struck in the 96th minute to settle a quarter-final that had everything you expect from the Copa del Rey.
The night’s early protagonist was Sadiq, who first turned the ball into his own net before making amends by scoring at the right end to level the match before half-time. The second half saw Jauregizar miss a penalty that could have put Ernesto Valverde’s side ahead, sending the game towards a nerve-shredding finale.
It was the Williams brothers who ultimately made the difference. Nico provided the assist and Iñaki delivered the decisive blow, keeping the Lions’ Copa dream alive.
DEPORTIVO ALAVÉS 2–3 REAL SOCIEDAD
A classic cup tie unfolded in the Basque derby between Alavés and Real Sociedad — packed with quality football, intensity, goals and late drama.
The hosts struck first through Rebbach in the eighth minute, but Mikel Oyarzabal responded swiftly for La Real, who were soon behind again after Toni Martínez converted a penalty before the break.
Alavés had the chance to extend their lead after the restart, but Martínez missed his second spot-kick, denied by an outstanding Álex Remiro. That moment proved pivotal, as Real Sociedad mounted a late comeback. Goals from Guedes in the 76th minute and Óskarsson four minutes later turned the tie on its head and sent the txuri-urdin into the semi-finals.
ALBACETE BALOMPIÉ 1–2 FC BARCELONA
Goals from Lamine Yamal before the break and Ronald Araújo early in the second half carried FC Barcelona into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey Mapfre.
The holders made their quality count after winning possession high up the pitch, with teenage star Yamal finishing clinically in the 39th minute. Araújo doubled the lead shortly after the restart with a powerful header from a corner.
Albacete reduced the deficit late on through a superb Javi Moreno header in the 87th minute, and pushed hard in the closing stages, but Barça survived a tense finish to secure their place in the last four.
A 2–1 win, a ticket to the semi-finals, and now Barcelona await the draw to discover their next opponent in the fight for the Copa crown.
