Atlético de Madrid Reach the Final! (3–0)
Despite the defeat on the night, Atleti book their ticket to Seville.
Atlético de Madrid secured their place in the final in Seville by making their first-leg advantage count against FC Barcelona. The Catalan side won 3–0 on the night, but Atleti’s four-goal haul at the Metropolitano in the first leg proved decisive, sending Diego Pablo Simeone’s men through to the final for the first time in 13 years.
Barcelona came out determined to produce a historic comeback on home soil. Hansi Flick’s side pressed aggressively from the opening whistle, forcing Atlético onto the back foot. Fermín López struck the crossbar with Barça’s first shot on target, while further chances fell to Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Ferran Torres.
Barça’s relentless pressure also created openings for Atlético on the counter-attack. Simeone’s team looked to protect possession and break quickly with sharp, one-touch moves. Antoine Griezmann fired home with his right foot in a move later ruled out for offside, while their clearest chance came when Lookman’s header flashed narrowly wide.
As has so often been the case at Barça’s stadium, Lamine Yamal produced a moment of magic to open the scoring. The Spanish international crafted a brilliant run down the right before squaring for Marc Bernal, who tapped into an empty net — a goal that sparked belief around Camp Nou.
On the stroke of half-time, Marc Pubill brought down Pedri in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Raphinha calmly converted from 12 yards, beating Juan Musso with composure to make it 2–0.
After the break, Flick’s side emerged with even greater intent. Musso was called into action repeatedly to deny Barcelona a third goal.
Then came the moment that made the improbable seem possible. Marc Bernal grabbed his second of the night to make it 3–0, meeting a perfectly delivered cross from João Cancelo with a first-time finish into the net.
Despite Barcelona’s late surge and the feverish atmosphere inside Camp Nou, Atlético de Madrid ultimately held firm. Their 4–0 first-leg advantage proved decisive, sealing their place at La Cartuja in Seville.
Atlético will now aim to lift the Copa del Rey for the 11th time on 18 April — returning to the grand final 13 years after their last appearance.
