The Spain Under-17 national team began a training camp on Monday in Alfaz del Pi, a four-day programme marking the first steps of Sergio García as the new coach of the age group.

The 26 players called up for the camp are also adapting to a manager with proven credentials in youth development. Before joining the Spanish Football Federation in Las Rozas, García was in charge of Juvenil A at CF Damm in the División de Honor. As a player, Sergio García de la Fuente enjoyed an outstanding career, representing clubs such as FC Barcelona, Levante UD, Real Zaragoza, Real Betis Balompié, and RCD Espanyol. He was also a member of the Spain squad crowned champions of UEFA EURO 2008, cementing his status as one of the national team’s notable figures.

Following Monday’s initial session, which combined training and team meetings, the U-17s played a high-intensity practice match on Tuesday — a valuable exercise for García as he begins to assess his squad. The programme continues in the afternoon with video analysis, while training will resume on Wednesday before the camp concludes on Thursday with another match.
