HM King Felipe VI Stars in Spain’s 2026 World Cup Squad Video Alongside Citizens Representing the Nation
The Spanish Royal Household has expressed its support for the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) through the prominent participation of HM King Felipe VI, who was responsible for unveiling Spain’s squad list for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bakers, taxi drivers, fishermen, magistrates, booksellers, teachers, chefs, scientists and many other professions are featured in the video, each representing the diversity and unity of the country.
“It is the list of an entire nation. It is Spain’s list,” could be heard in the voice of HM King Felipe VI in the video presenting the players selected for the Spanish national team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada in June 2026.
Through his participation in the squad announcement, HM King Felipe VI demonstrated the support of the Spanish Royal Household for national football. The gesture was personally acknowledged by the President of the RFEF during an official visit to the Ciudad del Fútbol. The King recorded his message for the presentation video produced by the RFEF Communications Department several days prior to its official release.
His Majesty delivered an emotional message designed to unite supporters across the country around this special national team announcement: “When the national team plays, we all play,” said King Felipe VI, as he introduced “Spain’s list” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and passed the focus to the players themselves.
Subsequently, individuals and fans from a wide range of professions and backgrounds, representing all corners of Spain, were shown announcing the names of the 26 players selected by Luis de la Fuente to represent the national team at the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
HM King Felipe VI thus joined the national team in a highly symbolic moment, part of a series of squad announcement videos in which Spain’s men’s and women’s national teams have previously been presented with the involvement of prominent figures from Spanish society and culture, including actor Antonio Banderas, athletes Ricky Rubio and Carolina Marín, and singers India Martínez and Pablo Alborán.
