Los Angeles: Uncharted Territory
After playing close to 800 international matches throughout their history, there are very few cities where the Spanish national team have yet to take the field. Los Angeles, the second most populous city in the United States after New York, is one of them. Although Spain have played 12 matches on American soil, this will be their first appearance in the state of California.
Luis de la Fuente's squad completed their final training session at Baylor School on Tuesday morning before bidding farewell to Chattanooga—a city that welcomed the team warmly from the very beginning and whose people embraced the Spanish delegation throughout their stay.
Spain now leave Chattanooga, Tennessee, behind and embark on the next stage of their FIFA World Cup journey as the knockout rounds begin. The team's flight landed in Los Angeles shortly after 19:00 local time (04:15 CEST), after which the players travelled directly to their team hotel in Long Beach, located approximately 50 kilometres south of downtown Los Angeles.
On Wednesday, the eve of the Round of 32 encounter against Austria, Spain will hold their official training session at Carson Sports Park, beginning at 11:00 local time, with the opening 15 minutes available to the media.
Earlier in the day, at 10:00, three members of the squad will speak to journalists in the mixed zone at the training facility. Later, at 14:30, head coach Luis de la Fuente will address the media in the press conference room at Los Angeles Stadium, where he will preview Thursday's knockout fixture and answer questions from reporters.
