Rafael Louzán, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has kicked off a series of meetings in Mexico this week with government officials and the national football federation as preparations continue for this summer’s World Cup in the Americas.
During his first stop, Louzán met with Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus, alongside Zapopan mayor Juan José Frangie Saadeand RFEF general director Manuel Lalinde. The meeting follows an earlier encounter held in Madrid.
Louzán expressed his gratitude for the warm reception in the region, highlighting both the close relationship with local authorities and Guadalajara’s strong appeal as a host city for the tournament.
“We feel at home here. You can sense the affection, and we share that feeling for this place and this country,” he said.
He also underlined the importance of the Guadalajara venue, which will host a key match that could shape Spain’s progress in the tournament.
Governor Lemus, meanwhile, spoke about the region’s preparations, describing Guadalajara as a welcoming and historic city ready to host a major football celebration. Plans include expanded electric public transport, international concerts during the tournament, and a fan zone in the historic city centre near the cathedral and key government buildings.
Earlier, the RFEF delegation visited Estadio Akron, home of C.D. Guadalajara, where Spain will play their third group-stage match against Uruguay national football team. The stadium’s design, inspired by a volcano, features a green exterior slope and red seating intended to evoke flowing lava.
The visit continues on Thursday in Puebla, where Spain’s upcoming friendly against Peru national football team on 8 June will be officially presented at Estadio Cuauhtémoc. The match will serve as part of Spain’s preparations ahead of the World Cup, which begins on 11 June.
Louzán’s trip will conclude in Mexico City, where he is set to sign a cooperation agreement with the Mexican Football Federation following a visit to Spain’s ambassador.
