Wed, 24/09/2025 - 17:31

RFEF president Rafael Louzán presented at Málaga City Hall the first leg of the Nations League semifinals, in which Spain will defend its title.

“The match in Málaga will feature the reigning world champions, Nations League champions, European runners-up, and a team with several Ballon d’Or winners,” Louzán recalled.

The Salón de los Espejos at Málaga City Hall, located in the historic Casona del Parque beneath the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, was chosen by the Royal Spanish Football Federation to host the official presentation of the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Nations League semifinals. Spain will face Sweden at La Rosaleda Stadium on 24 October.

The ceremony, hosted by Málaga’s mayor Francisco de la Torre, welcomed the RFEF and Spain’s women’s national team. Also in attendance, representing the institutions that have supported Spain’s visit to Málaga, were Gorka Lerchundi, Director General for Events and Facilities of the Junta de Andalucía; Juan Rosas, Vice President of the Provincial Council of Málaga and Deputy for Sports; and Pedro Curtido, President of the Andalusian Football Federation.

On behalf of the city, Mayor de la Torre thanked all participants and highlighted Málaga’s honor in hosting such a prestigious match, expressing his hope for strong public support: “The women’s national team deserves an unforgettable reception,” he said.

Speaking for the RFEF, President Louzán emphasized Andalucía’s tradition as a welcoming land and praised the coordination between the regional government, the Provincial Council, and the City Council in bringing the event to fruition. He reminded the audience that the team playing at La Rosaleda is “world champion, Nations League champion, European runner-up, and home to several Ballon d’Or winners. It will be a great match featuring the number one team in the world.” He also underlined the historic fact that, for the first time, both Spain’s men’s and women’s national teams currently top the FIFA world rankings.

Representing the Junta de Andalucía, Gorka Lerchundi reaffirmed the region’s commitment to sport and to football in particular, noting that Andalucía has hosted more than 20 matches of Spain’s national teams. From the Provincial Council, Vice President Juan Rosas echoed this message and invited municipalities across the province to attend, stressing the importance of ongoing work to promote women’s sport.

Spain’s women’s national team will play its first match of the 2025/26 season at La Rosaleda, defending its Nations League title as reigning champions of the competition. The squad also enters the tie as reigning world champions and recent European runners-up. The match will mark the official debut of Sonia Bermúdez as Spain’s head coach.

Tickets for the semifinal first leg at La Rosaleda went on sale on Wednesday, 24 September, for season ticket holders, and will be available to the general public beginning tomorrow through the RFEF’s official ticketing platform.
