Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium to host the 2027 UEFA Champions League Final
The UEFA Executive Committee, meeting this Thursday in Albania, has designated the stadium in Spain’s capital as the venue for the decisive match of Europe’s premier club competition.
The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, took part on Thursday in the UEFA Executive Committee meeting held in Tirana, Albania, during which important decisions were adopted across various areas.
Among them, Europe’s governing football body confirmed the host venues for several major UEFA competitions, including the selection of Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium as the ground that will stage the Champions League Final for the 2026–2027 season.
With this decision, Spain will once again organise, for the ninth time in history and the first time this decade, the final of the most prestigious men’s club competition, whose current edition is set to conclude this season with a final in Budapest.
Owned by Club Atlético de Madrid and with a capacity exceeding 70,000 spectators, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium has already hosted the UEFA Champions League Final once before, on 1 June 2019, when Liverpool FC defeated Tottenham Hotspur FC 2–0.
The Executive Committee’s decision confirms UEFA’s renewed trust in Spanish football, while also reaffirming Spain’s outstanding organisational capacity. In 2030, Spain will host the majority of matches in the final stage of the FIFA World Cup, organised jointly with Portugal and Morocco, as well as with Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
Other resolutions adopted in Tirana include the designation of the Italian city of Pesaro as the host of next year’s UEFA Futsal Champions League Final—of which Spanish side Palma Futsal are the current holders—and the awarding of the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO Final Tournament to Croatia in 2027, where Spain’s national team will aim to defend its three consecutive continental titles.
