Mikel Oyarzabal celebrates his golden milestone with the National Team
At 28 years of age, Mikel Oyarzabal continues to rack up achievements with the Spanish national team. His latest milestone: reaching 50 caps.
Since making his debut nearly a decade ago, on 29 May 2016 against Bosnia (3–1), the Eibar-born Real Sociedad forward has enjoyed a successful international career, etching his name into Spanish football history by scoring the decisive 2–1 goal against England in the Euro 2020 final.
A remarkable player with a winning touch, Oyarzabal has consistently appeared in key moments, leaving his mark with goals. This includes the aforementioned final in Berlin, the Olympic final in Tokyo, and the UEFA Nations League finals in 2022 and 2025. Four finals with Spain; four goals.
During this period, he has become the top scorer of the Luis de la Fuente era with 15 goals in 23 matches. Alongside the coach, he also won the 2019 UEFA Under-21 European Championship.
These figures are reflected in the current 2026 World Cup qualifying phase, where, including his two goals against Georgia, he has registered five goals and four assists in five matches. Across all of 2025, he has contributed to 14 goals in nine appearances.
Mikel’s 51st match could take place in Sevilla, against Turkey, in a fixture that may secure Spain’s place in the most prestigious intercontinental tournament for national teams.
