Next Stop: World Cup (0-0)
From the very first minute at a RCDE Stadium awash in red and gold, Spain dominated possession. In the opening moments, Pedro Porro and Lamine Yamal tested the goalkeeper, followed shortly after by Pablo Fornals and Dani Olmo, who forced interventions from the Egyptian keeper. Midway through the first half, a brilliant move from Lamine Yamal finished by Ferran Torres brought the crowd to their feet, applauding in memory of former Espanyol captain Dani Jarque.
Omar Marmoush of Manchester City created Egypt’s best chance, striking the ball against the base of the post past David Raya, who returned to the stadium where he made his senior Spain debut four years ago.
35,895 spectators attended Spain vs Egypt at the RCDE Stadium
After the interval, Spain pushed forward in search of a winner. Ferran Torres tested the goal, only for Ibrahim to block his effort. In the 53rd minute, Fermín came close, but Shobeir forced a corner. Immediately afterward, Pedri struck a brilliant shot, which Shobeir spectacularly tipped over.
The match also saw the debut of two new internationals: Ander Barrenetxea, who started, and Joan Garcia, who came on in the 62nd minute for David Raya.
Spain continued to pressure the Egyptian goal. Mosquera, an industrious Fermín, and Rodrigo all went close, but narrowly missed. With ten minutes remaining, Borja Iglesias attempted a lob that beat Shobeir but went just over the crossbar.
In the closing stages, Alejandro Grimaldo struck the bar in what was the final clear opportunity of the game. Spain remain unbeaten over the past two years, closing the March international window with three goals scored and no goals conceded. The next time the Spain national football team regroup will be for the World Cup window this summer.
