RFEF Board Approves Luis de la Fuente’s Contract Extension Through 2032
The governing body has agreed on an extension for the Spain senior national team head coach. The meeting also approved the renewal of Spain futsal head coach Jesús Velasco, who will remain in charge of the national team until 2029.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Board of Directors, chaired by Rafael Louzán and meeting at Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, has unanimously approved the contract extension of Spain senior national team head coach Luis de la Fuente, who will remain with the RFEF until 2032. The decision follows Spain’s success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the national team were crowned world champions.
Addressing the Board, Rafael Louzán said: “We are looking for a project based on stability and confidence. This proposal is founded on our confidence in Luis de la Fuente and in the sporting project he leads, for a multi-year competitive cycle featuring major tournaments. We are talking about the most decorated coach in the history of the national team, and after fourteen years in our organisation, this is something Luis de la Fuente deserves: a long-term future with the RFEF,” the president said.
Luis de la Fuente will extend his contract with a view to the next two European Championships, in 2028 and 2032, as well as the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Spain will co-host alongside Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
The agreement will be presented at Ciudad del Fútbol in an event attended by the national team head coach, along with representatives from across Spanish football. The event will also lay the foundations for the path ahead for the world champions. That roadmap includes the objective of EURO 2028, as well as the next edition of the UEFA Nations League, whose opening matches will be played this September and early October, with England, Croatia and Czech Republic as Spain’s opponents.
The meeting at Ciudad del Fútbol also included the renewal of Spain futsal head coach Jesús Velasco through July 2029. The agreement will be formally presented at a later date.
