Rafael Louzán opens UEFA General Secretaries’ meeting in Marbella
The president of the RFEF welcomed UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and expressed his gratitude for Spain’s selection as host of this working meeting of “those who are the backbone of football in Europe.”
The city of Marbella (Málaga) is hosting, over two days, the meeting of the general secretaries of all UEFA national associations. For its 2025 edition, Spain has been chosen as the venue for this gathering, which serves to share best practices, address challenges, and exchange initiatives that shape the day-to-day work of European football.
The opening remarks were delivered by Rafael Louzán, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, who emphasized the significance of the event: “This meeting is an excellent opportunity to share experience, knowledge, and management expertise, which make European football a global benchmark. You are the best example of how professionalism, dedication, and strategic vision sustain and strengthen our federations, ensuring their solidity and prestige.”
Discussions during the sessions will focus on grassroots football, women’s football, digitalization and modernization of structures, as well as principles such as transparency and sustainability. Louzán reminded participants: “European football is today a model of global success, but we must not be complacent. The trust of millions of fans, the development of new generations, the defense of our values, and Europe’s projection to the world all depend greatly on our collective effort. And that collective effort is built day by day in your general secretariats.”
The UEFA meeting, in which the RFEF is represented by its General Secretary, Álvaro de Miguel Casanueva, and the Director of Institutional Relations and International Projects, Eduard Dervishaj, will run for two days in Marbella. The agenda includes reviewing and evaluating the recent EURO 2025 in Switzerland, alongside discussions on legal matters, refereeing, youth football, and national teams.
