After Spain’s victory over Ukraine at the Mardan Antalyaspor Stadium in Turkey, head coach Sonia Bermúdezassessed the match:

“That’s it — six points. We’ll take the two debuts and Lucía Corrales’ first goal with the senior national team. It’s a win, which is what we wanted. Six points, and now we turn our attention to England.”

Speaking about the rotations, substitutions and debuts, the coach explained:

“We ended up playing with two forwards, trying to be more direct and push for more goals. Edna is gaining confidence and getting more minutes, and the rest of the team is too. We’re happy. I think only one outfield player didn’t get minutes, along with Enith. We’re pleased that everyone was able to contribute to the team.”

Bermúdez also highlighted the work the squad has put in during the training camp:

“We’ve had some really good days of work. Earning a place in the team is very difficult, and if these players are here it’s because we trust them. The group comes out of this stronger, and the players have brought a lot of energy. Now we focus on what’s next.”

She also explained some of the decisions regarding playing time:

“Ona has had a heavy workload with her club and we know what’s coming up next. In Alexia’s case as well, we wanted her to only play the first half to give rest to players who are usually in the starting XI and have logged a lot of minutes. What we want is for everyone to be at one hundred percent when we face England.”
