The Spanish side will attempt to cross the Saudi desert in search of the oasis of victory in a crucial match for its World Cup ambitions. Following a goalless draw against Cape Verde in their opening fixture, Luis de la Fuente’s team is determined to secure all three points against Saudi Arabia in the second round of Group H matches. The encounter will take place at the same venue and time as Spain’s opener: Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, United States, at 12:00 p.m. local time.

Brazilian referee Raphael Claus will officiate the Spain–Saudi Arabia match.

Spain, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Cape Verde all collected one point from their opening fixtures, leaving Group H finely balanced and increasing Spain’s determination to claim victory and strengthen its prospects of qualification.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two nations and their second encounter at a FIFA World Cup. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Spain defeated Saudi Arabia 1–0 thanks to a goal from Juanito in the 36th minute. In addition, the teams have faced each other in two international friendlies, in 2010 and 2012, with Spain winning 3–2 and 5–0 respectively. As a result, Spain remains unbeaten against the Middle Eastern side.

Spain vs Saudi Arabia will kick off on 21 June at 6:00 p.m. Spanish time and will be broadcast on La 1.

At the 1994 World Cup in the United States, Saudi Arabia achieved the best result in its history by reaching the Round of 16.

De la Fuente, who celebrates his 65th birthday this Sunday, stated during his pre-match press conference that his ideal birthday gift would be a victory and a strong performance that moves Spain closer to its objective.

With everything still to play for in the group stage, Spain will approach the match with determination, intensity and fighting spirit as it seeks all three points and hopes to find its oasis in the desert.
