Spotify Camp Nou Chosen as Venue for the 2029 UEFA Champions League Final
Spanish football has received the backing of European football and will once again host the final of the continent’s premier club competition in 2029, following a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee. The award is the result of joint efforts by the RFEF, FC Barcelona and Barcelona’s public authorities.
Spanish football continues to demonstrate its unique ability to host major international sporting events. If the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final is to be played in Madrid, at the Riyadh Metropolitano, two years later it will be Barcelona and Spotify Camp Nou that host the final of the world’s premier continental club competition. The decision was announced by the UEFA Executive Committee on 15 September in Thessaloniki, Greece, confirming that the Barcelona stadium will host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final.
Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán, who is a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, welcomed the decision: “Europe and the football world have confidence in Spain. We are leaders on the pitch, as demonstrated by our titles as the reigning men’s and women’s world champions and reigning European champions. But we are also leaders when it comes to hosting major sporting events. Spain will host the Champions League finals in 2027 and 2029, and we will rise to the occasion, as we did in 2019 and 2010. Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Seville, to name just a few cities in our country, are synonymous with reliability, efficiency, security and confidence when it comes to organising major sporting events,” Louzán said.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation will therefore serve as host and co-organiser of a final made possible through the joint efforts of FC Barcelona, the public authorities in Barcelona and Catalonia, and Spanish football.
This will be the third time Barcelona has hosted a Champions League final, and the first in 30 years since the previous final played at Spotify Camp Nou in 1999. The first was held in 1989, when AC Milan defeated Steaua Bucharest 4-0. The most recent, in 1999, saw Manchester United beat Bayern Munich 2-1.
