Matchday six, the final round of Group A3. Victory was required to guarantee Spain a direct ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027. The objective was achieved — and in emphatic fashion.

A commanding 6–1 victory over Iceland in Reykjavík sealed qualification and capped an outstanding conclusion to the campaign. Buoyed by the momentum of their impressive 4–0 win over England in the previous fixture, and having reclaimed top spot in the group, Spain knew that one final victory would secure their place in Brazil.

Every objective was achieved on the night. Spain recorded their first-ever victory in Iceland, finished top of Group A3 to secure direct qualification, and concluded the campaign as both the highest-scoring side and the team with the best defensive record.

That is why, when Slovak referee Miriama Bočková blew the final whistle, the players erupted with joy. It was another landmark moment in the remarkable story this generation continues to write.

Brazil 2027 will mark Spain’s fourth consecutive appearance at a FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the celebrations reflected the significance of the achievement. There was satisfaction not only with the result itself, but also with the quality of the performance and the team’s attacking efficiency throughout the qualifying campaign.

As reigning world champions and the current leaders of the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, Spain will travel to Brazil determined to defend the star they earned on 20 August 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.

The team celebrated together on the pitch at Laugardalsvöllur Stadium, sharing a moment of pride, happiness and togetherness after securing their place on football’s biggest stage once again.
