At the very place where Real Racing Club de Santander celebrated their promotion to the top flight earlier this year, and opposite the square where thousands of fans watched Spain’s historic victory over Argentina in the final, the Kings of the World exhibition has officially opened in Santander.

The Cantabrian capital is hosting some of the tournament’s most important memorabilia, alongside its main attraction: the golden trophy awarded to the world champions. On Sunday, it will travel from the city hall to MarquĂ©s de Valdecilla University Hospital, where children receiving care in the Paediatric Oncology Unit, along with other patients, will have the opportunity to have their photograph taken with the trophy.

RFEF president Rafael LouzĂĄn officially opened the exhibition and once again expressed Spanish football’s condolences following the tragic death of striker JesĂșs de Miguel. LouzĂĄn attended the player's funeral on Thursday in the Toledo town of Navahermosa, alongside Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente.

It is Luis de la Fuente’s words that provide the exhibition’s central thread. Rafael Louzán described it as “an exhibition by everyone and for everyone”, adding: “It comes after those wonderful images of towns and cities across Spain celebrating the victory in the final, just as they did here in Santander. Believe me when I say that, in the United States, we could feel the support of all Spanish fans.”

For the RFEF president, “we must be very proud of this shared achievement, which also inspires us to organise the greatest World Cup in history in 2030. Let’s make it happen together.”

That same sense of community was emphasised by Santander mayor Gema Igual, who recalled that “that night in July, our city came to a standstill, because football is a sport that brings people together. This trophy means so much because it represents the triumph of values that are hugely positive for society.”

Cantabria regional president MarĂa JosĂ© SĂĄenz de Buruaga also invited everyone to enjoy the exhibition, saying that it “represents a wonderful opportunity to experience once again the emotion of remembering our national team’s historic victory”.

The moment was experienced from afar by Royal Cantabrian Football Federation president JosĂ© Ángel PelĂĄez, who admitted that he “cried like a child”. “I know how difficult it was to achieve this,” he added, “but I am sure we will do it again with President LouzĂĄn at the helm.”

With Cantabria, the Kings of the World exhibition has now visited twelve of Spain’s autonomous communities. Next week, it will travel to Extremadura as it continues its journey through every region of the country, bringing fans together to celebrate Spain’s achievement of winning their second World Cup star.
