The RFEF welcomes Movistar as a new sponsor of the Spanish national team
The agreement between the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the telecommunications company will run until December 2030
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Telefónica have reached an agreement under which the company becomes an official sponsor of Spain’s national football teams until 2030.
Through this deal, Movistar will be the official telecommunications partner of the men’s and women’s senior national teams, the U21s, and youth sides, in a collaboration that strengthens the connection between football, technology, and digital experiences for millions of fans.
The Spanish multinational Telefónica, owner of the Movistar brand, now joins the RFEF family—a group that has grown significantly over the past year, driven by the vision of president Rafael Louzán and his team to align Spanish football with major commercial brands that are also global benchmarks of Spanish business success, both domestically and internationally, as is the case with Telefónica and Movistar.
Spain’s national team gains a new partner as it looks ahead to upcoming sporting challenges, aiming to defend its No. 1 position in both the men’s and women’s FIFA world rankings.
This partnership will accompany the national teams through a particularly important cycle for Spanish football, with Spain set to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer. A year later, the women’s national team will look to defend their status as reigning world champions at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, alongside upcoming tournaments including EURO 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
RFEF president Rafael Louzán said: “It is fantastic news to welcome Telefónica as a new sponsor of Spain’s national teams. This partnership is not just a commercial agreement, but a union between business and sport that promotes the ‘Spain brand’ worldwide. Moving forward together is the best possible news at a time of stability and sporting success, with both senior national teams ranked No. 1 in the FIFA rankings.”
Meanwhile, Telefónica chairman Marc Murtra added: “We want to be the best gateway to the digital world for citizens, and that includes delivering the very best content. To do that, we must be present at the moments when millions of Spaniards come together to share unique digital experiences. Spanish national team football is one of those moments. Supporting our national team through to 2030 reinforces our strategy and our commitment to shared experiences and Spanish talent.”
The agreement will enable the development of new initiatives connecting technology, entertainment, and sport.
