“We Are Now 42 Official Matches Unbeaten”
The Spain head coach addressed the media following the third matchday of the UEFA Nations League, which saw Spain defeat Czechia at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium in Oviedo.
Match analysis: “The first half was very good. The team played well and controlled the game. In the second half, the changes didn’t help — not because of the players, but because they interrupt the rhythm and make it harder to maintain continuity. All of that means the game loses some of its sharpness and fluidity.”
🎙️ “Whenever we can, we look after the players so that they can be in the best possible condition for the next match.”
➡️ “We’ll be satisfied if we leave this international window with 12 points.”
🗣️ Luis de la Fuente, Spain head coach.

Changes: “We always prioritise the players’ health, but we also have to win matches. Tonight was about putting in a good performance. We’ll get home at around three in the morning, we’ll train tomorrow and then travel again on Monday. We have to look after the players so that everyone can arrive in the best possible condition. It’s very difficult to balance performance and player welfare.”
Croatia: “We saw that they made very few changes against England. That result is not normal, so we have to analyse the match. The only thing it means is that they will come out much more motivated and demanding in the next match because it was a heavy defeat.”
Czechia: “Moments like today put the reality of international football into perspective. At this level, you have to be close to excellence to win matches. Any lapse can cost you a goal or a game, and that serves as a reminder that we always have to keep striving to improve. We are now 42 official matches unbeaten. We’re not happy because there were periods when we suffered a lot, and we’re not used to that.”

Lamine Yamal: “I don’t think he ever stops surprising us. He has so much talent and quality, and there is still so much more to come from him. He is growing in leaps and bounds.”
The atmosphere: “We’ve been incredibly happy, delighted and emotional because of the affection and warmth shown by everyone. Oviedo really rallied behind Spain. I’m proud to have such loyal and passionate supporters.”
