“We Want to Seal Qualification Now”
Luis de la Fuente sat down in the press room at Poljud Stadium in Split, Croatia, to answer questions from the media ahead of Spain’s UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia.
Croatia: “They are a fantastic team, an outstanding team, and one of the most important national sides of the last decade. What happened the other day was a footballing anomaly — 7-0. That happens once in a lifetime. It does not reflect the difference in footballing quality between the teams. That result can serve as motivation for them. Football is football, and we are eager to put in a good performance and seal qualification.”
🎙️ “I expect Croatia to be the team we anticipated. For me, they are an outstanding side and have been one of the most important national teams in the world over the last decade.”

Lamine Yamal: “We have always selected the best team for the match we have to play, and that is what we have done throughout these games. Tomorrow we have a match that is in perfect condition for us. No player will play more than 270 minutes, which would mean playing three of the four matches. Tomorrow’s game is very important for us and we want to show our best version.”
Rotations: “Every player always wants to play, and they all tell you they are in perfect condition to do so.”
🎙️ “We try to find a balance in terms of minutes among the players available to us against very demanding opponents.”
➡️ “Against Croatia, we also want to show our best version.”

Changes: “Fundamentally, it comes down to the quality of the players. They deserve the credit because they are always up to the task. You know which players you can call upon and how they can fit into the team. We have a group of people who make everything integrate perfectly. That has an influence and makes things very comfortable.”
Training camp: “They have even had two days off. Living together with them is very easy; they are a wonderful group and they have a great time together. We are always looking to improve, but they live together very naturally. They look after themselves extremely well, and we are fortunate to have a group of players like this.”
New format: “I preferred the previous one. This is the format we have and we are not going to complain, but four matches in just over ten days, with the travel and everything else, is a lot. There are no excuses or complaints, but I would prefer the previous format.”
