27 July 2024 will be a difficult day to forget for Miguel Gutiérrez. The player from Madrid celebrated his 23rd birthday in Bordeaux with the Olympic National Football Team with which he played the second group stage match  that saw the victory against Dominican Republic.

The full-back came on in the 66th minute of the match, getting his first minutes in the competition. Four minutes later, he ran in at the back post to finish a Fermín cross in an effort that Aimar Oroz was unable to get a touch on at the front post. The goal was disallowed in the first instance by the referee, but he would celebrate four minutes later after it was reviewed by the VAR. When the Emirati referee awarded the goal, all his teammates hugged him to celebrate one of the best possible birthday presents.

The final cherry on the cake would be securing a place in the quarter-finals after beating the Dominican team by three goals to one. The day ended with a cake during dinner, the traditional happy birthday song and a message of thanks from the star after blowing out his candles: ‘Four years ago I was also able to celebrate my birthday with you and win a gold medal with the U-19 team with many of you and I hope that this year it will be the same. There's no better way to celebrate my birthday than with you all and with today's victory.

Debut, goal and into the quarter-finals on the day of a very special 23rd birthday.
