A European champion in search of an Olympic gold medal
The Olympic National Football Team is now in France. A trip that the national team has made with a new face among its ranks, that of Álex Baena. The flamboyant Euro 2024 winner travelled to Bordeaux with the rest of his teammates with the hope of putting the cherry on the cake of what would be a historic summer for him and for Spanish football.
As part of Luis de la Fuente's team, he managed to lift his fourth European Championships, a feat that Baena attributes to the merits of the squad: ‘It has been a dream for the 26 players who were there. Winning a European Championships with your country is a source of great pride, something that is rarely achieved and a dream since I was a child’.
Back to the pitch in Bordeaux
Now, under the orders of Santi Denia, he will experience the Olympics, an unprecedented and very special tournament for Alex on a personal level: ‘It's also a dream. When I was a child, I used to watch the Olympic Games, all the important sports and athletes in the world and now to be able to play in one of them is a real dream come true’.
A spectacular new horizon opens up for Álex Baena in Paris. The player from Roquetas de Mar could win two of the most important titles a footballer can claim in the same summer: ‘It would be a historic event to win two winners’ medals. I think we have a very good team and can do something great’.
