The Most Sustainable Cuidad de Fútbol has recycled over 12,000 containers through the smart machine installed in collaboration with Ecoembes and has reduced single-use bottle consumption by 50 percent, following the installation of water fountains and the distribution of reusable bottles among its employees.

Since October 2022, all employees and visitors to the federation’s headquarters have been able to recycle plastic bottles as well as soft drink cans in the machine, contributing to a cleaner planet through the recycling of these containers, with incentives such as prizes or support for social projects.

The figures are impressive and still growing. Up until 31st August 2024, individuals committed to the benefits of recycling have deposited a total of 12,618 containers in the machine, equating to more than 300 containers per month being recycled through this initiative. Of that total, more than 8,000 have been recycled in the past twelve months, and from February to July, the rate of recycling by those participating in initiative has exceeded 1,000 containers per month.

Three-quarters of these 12,000+ containers have been plastic bottles (9,746 units).

All of this is thanks to the initiative developed by the RFEF's Social Responsibility Department, which has distributed personalised bottles to all staff members at the federation's headquarters in the Cuidad de Fútbol. Additionally, plastic items have been eliminated, and glass bottles have been provided for work meetings and in the restaurant area. This has enabled a 50% reduction in plastic bottle consumption compared to previous years.

‘Reciclos’ is a project developed through the Ecoembes’ innovation centre, which allows individuals to earn 1 "reciclo" points each time they deposit a container. These "points" can be converted into opportunities to win prizes through various raffles or can be used to make donations to social and environmental projects.
