A sustainable European Championships Final, thanks to the collaboration of UEFA and RFEF

Fri, 12/07/2024 - 19:06

This Sunday's European Championships final in Berlin will also be sustainable and accessible, thanks to the joint work that UEFA and the RFEF have been carrying out throughout the tournament, with the aim of ensuring that all fans can enjoy the most inclusive and environmentally friendly football.

As such, there will be 25 volunteers dedicated exclusively to accessibility, fully accessible tickets to the stadium (A and B); companions for people in wheelchairs; preferential access to food and beverage sales areas; sensory bags with noise-cancelling headphones and other features; or match narration for blind people, among others.

These inclusive services have been repeated in all the matches played by the Spanish national team, in addition to the sustainability of the team hotel, where our players have been based and where the press centre is located. To this end, single-use plastic was replaced by personalised bottles that could be refilled in the fountains installed for this purpose. The accreditations were also made with plastic-free materials, rest areas were created, the use of bicycles was promoted and healthy products were offered daily, such as seasonal fruit or healthy food. A waste separation and recycling policy was also implemented and an agreement was reached with the hotel where the national team is staying to avoid food waste.

In total, UEFA has invested 32 million euros in sustainability and has received the support of the national federations, which have also developed these sustainable policies and worked together in implementing them. In the case of the RFEF, in addition, the DAO (Disability Access Officer) has attended all fans with reduced mobility who have attended the matches.

All of the above-mentioned stations are wheelchair accessible.

Fans with visual or hearing impairments can also ask the volunteers in the Fan Zone for help in planning their journey.

🎉 Fan Zone Accessibility and Public Viewing

The Fan Zones areas will be accessible for all fans and will feature facilities such as viewing platforms, ramps for activations and much more.

Both the Reichstag Fan Zone and the Brandenburger Tor Fan Zone are generally accessible. A small number of attractions have upper floors that are not accessible by wheelchair. In such cases, a similar activity will be made on the ground floor where possible. Volunteers will also be available to offer assistance.

Accessible toilets and changing facilities are available in both Fan Zones. In addition, there are also male and female toilets available.

The public viewing area in the Fan Zone Brandenburger Tor is generally accessible. For wheelchair users, we recommend accessing the Fan Zone from the south (e.g. from Potsdamer Platz) via the south entrance of Ebertstraße. From here, ramps will guide you to an elevated viewing platform.

There is a viewing platform available for people with disabilities. The best way to access the platform is from the south (e.g. from Potsdamer Platz) via the south entrance of Ebertstraße.

You can also watch the matches in the Reichstag Fan Zone. There are many seating options available here.

There are accessible toilets and changing rooms in the public viewing area. In addition, there are also gender-neutral toilets available.
