A talismanic national team flag
Half a dozen times the Spanish National Team has played in the Martínez Valero stadium in Elche and won every game with only one goal conceded and last time beating Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.
The name of the town of Elche seems to bring luck to everyone's favourite team and Juan Macía Pérez proves it by having printed the city’s name on a huge Spanish flag that is displayed in the stadiums where the national team plays its matches.
So, from the European Championships in Germany to this Sunday's match in Geneva, passing through Belgrade three days ago, Juan and his friend Luis continue to support the national team with their flag, which was duplicated before the final in Berlin.
‘That’s not on’, Marc Cucurella confessed to Juan on Sunday when he found out about the theft of the twin flag during the last European Championships at a meeting organised in Geneva between the fans and the players of the national team.
Alongside the Barcelona full-back, midfielder Fabián Ruiz and striker Ayoze Pérez shared a few moments of joy and union with the Spanish fans just hours before the second UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland.
‘With this flag, I've now won five World Cups, five European Championships and one Nations Cup,’ explains Juan Macía, who years ago used to carry a drum in the colours of the national team, just like his beloved Manolo.
Juan and Luis will be one of the approximately one thousand fans of Spain supporting the team during a match in which the flag with the name of Elche wants to continue bringing fortune and triumphs for our beloved national team.
