A year on from our fourth European Championships
It may still feel like yesterday, but a year has passed since the Spanish National Team won the European Championships in Germany 2024.
Spain managed to lift their fourth European Championships trophy into the Berlin sky, thus becoming the country with the most continental crowns. This was the result of a fantastic tournament by Luis de la Fuente’s team, culminating in a thrilling final against England (2-1). Spain took the lead thanks to a great goal by Nico Williams, who broke into the box and finished first time from a perfectly delivered ball from Lamine Yamal. A duo that made headlines – and rightly so – throughout the entire tournament.
Later on, Cole Palmer picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area to level the final with a calm left-footed strike. A goal that gave hope to the English, but which certainly didn’t make Luis de la Fuente’s men lose theirs, as they had their minds set on making history.
Shortly after, the Spanish fans erupted in sheer joy. In the 86th minute, Cucurella charged down the left wing like a rocket and delivered a low, sharp, and precise cross into the English box, which Mikel Oyarzabal reached with the tip of his right foot – with soul and determination – carrying an entire country on his back as he scored a goal that is now a part of Spanish football history.

The match was hotly contested and filled with memorable moments, but undoubtedly one of those that stayed in the minds of Spanish fans – beyond the goals – was Dani Olmo’s clearance in the dying minutes. A header by Marc Guéhi from inside the box looked destined to go in, but the number 10 cleared it off the line with his head to the elation of all his teammates, the bench, and the whole country.
In the end, Morata lifted the fourth European Championships trophy on the pitch of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. And now, a year later, all Spanish fans remember the great tournament delivered by the national team, looking ahead with hope and excitement to what lies on the horizon.
