With a smile from ear to ear, Adriana Nanclares' face could be happier on her first day as a senior international.
The Athletic Club player is looking forward to playing "with the best in the world", as she acknowledges. Nanclares says she is "very happy and fulfilling a dream" to reach the senior national team.
Adriana Nanclares knows well what it means to wear the national team shirt, having been capped at U-19, U-20 and U-23 level: "It's every girl's dream. You develop through the youth levels, but we all dream of making it to the senior team. It's a reward for all the hard work".
The goalkeeper from Burgos, who was initially called up to Laura del Río's U-23 squad, has joined the senior side after the last-minute withdrawal of Cata Coll: "I was packing my suitcase to go to the U-23s but suddenly I saw several calls and messages on my mobile phone and they gave me the great news that I had been called up to the senior squad," says Nanclares, smiling.
Spain face their first two qualifiers for the 2025 European Championship against Belgium (Friday 5 April at 20:45 in Leuven) and the Czech Republic (Tuesday 9 April at 19:00 in the Estadio El Plantío in Burgos): "It's a coincidence that it's being played so close to my home (Miranda de Ebro). It will be very special and I'm sure a lot of people will be there to cheer us on."
