Aitana Bonmatí shines brightly, winning World Cup Player of the tournament

Spain wrote the most beautiful story ever told in Sydney, with the women's national team walking on cloud 9 after an unprecedented display. The national team has embroidered a World Cup winners’ star that shines brightly on their shirt. Not only did they take the trophy home, but they did so while remaining faithful to their famous passing style, dominating possession and setting the pace of the game. And there was no one better to lead the team to glory than Aitana Bonmatí,  voted player of the tournament.

While Olga Carmona has been recognised as the best player in the final, Aitana has taken the award of best player at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Three goals, two assists, more passes than anyone else at the tournament, an unquestionable leadership style and attitude all justify a decision that leaves no room for debate. She was already POTM in the opening game against Costa Rica and she repeated the feat in the Round of 16 against Switzerland.

Her finish to the season has been remarkable, in line with the rest of Jorge Vilda's team. After a great season with her club, Aitana Bonmatí has put the finishing touches to a great year with her superb World Cup in the colours of Spain.
