Aitana Bonmatí could not have had a better start to the year. The Spanish national team and FC Barcelona player has won The Best female player award in London, which is awarded by FIFA to the best player in the world each calendar year.
The finishing touch to an unforgettable 2023
First she won the Spanish Super Cup, as top scorer. With FC Barcelona, she also won the Spanish First Division and the Champions League, being named POTM of the European tournament and forming part of the dream 11.
With all these club titles under her belt, she travelled with the Spanish national team to Oceania to play in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the national team won its first World Cup winner's medal. Her magnificent performances on the pitch led to her being named the best player of the tournament.
Months later, she received the prestigious Ballon d'Or in Paris and on this most recent occasion, showing that all football connoisseurs are in agreement, the Spanish midfielder has put the icing on the cake of a spectacular year, by winning The Best female player award.
The Spanish national team was well represented in London, where Jenni Hermoso (Pachuca) was a finalist alongside Linda Caicedo (Real Madrid CF) in the players' category, Cata Coll (FC Barcelona) was among the three best goalkeepers of 2023 and B, scorer of the goal that gave us the world cup winners’ star, was included in the Best 11.
