One day during his development at Athletic Club, on the way back from a match, Aitor Paredes found himself watching teammate Ander’s screen to pass the time. From that moment onwards, he began to develop an interest in American football, though his devotion to the sport was cemented by the legendary celebrations of Odell Beckham Jr. imitating Michael Jackson.

Aitor Paredes tells us he keeps up with all the NFL teams, but his favourite is the Giants: “I haven’t had the chance to see them play live, I’d love to go to New York—I’ve never been there.”

“I learn things that I bring into my own game; it’s aggressive, it’s tactical, and I like the combination play it has. It really entertains me, and I have a great time watching the games. The closest thing in football are our set pieces,” he said happily.

It’s a passion he manages alongside his career in football. The Athletic Club defender has had a dream year in 2024 with his club: he scored his first goal for them, lifted the Copa del Rey, and has had an excellent start to the season.

He is now experiencing his first call-up with the Spanish senior team and could make his debut for the reigning European champions in the upcoming Nations League matches against Denmark and Switzerland.
