Ancelotti: "Every single player contributed to the win"

The Real Madrid coach highlighted the strength of his squad’s depth and their ability to bounce back after their opponents' goals: "It's part of the team's DNA".

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke in the press room about what he called a "very demanding" match, and summed up the game by saying that his team had won by "improving as the match went on". It was a match in which his team went from strength to strength, with Real Madrid’s 5-3 victory decided in extra time.

Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction that the changes he made worked, and that the match had been won by "every single player on the pitch"; and he underlined the importance of having a strong bench. "It gives me a lot of confidence," he said.

Regarding their ability as a squad to overcome Atlético's goals, the coach said it is "part of Real Madrid's DNA". "Maybe it's because we simply couldn’t lose; it's a learning experience for the younger players," he said.

The whole squad celebrated the last two goals by running onto the pitch, in what was a great victory. Ancelotti however, as some journalists pointed out, was less effusive. The Italian explained: "The team are very happy but now we have to be calm, because the game had a lot of emotion but there are 90 minutes left for us to win the tournament."
