Atlético de Madrid first Copa del Rey MAPFRE semi-finalist

Club Atlético de Madrid will contest the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE for the second consecutive year. The red and whites easily got the better of Getafe CF by five goals to nil at the Metropolitano thanks to a brace from Giuliano and goals from Samu Lino, Correa and Sorloth.

The first of the two Madrid derbies in the quarter-finals began with the home side going on the attack from the opening whistle. Eight minutes into the game, the Red and Whites took the lead. A cross from the left by Javi Galán was headed into the back of the net by Giuliano. A few minutes later, Giuliano again finished off a great move in which Julián Álvarez opened up some space down the right and Rodrigo de Paul assisted with his first touch.

Cholo Simeone's team had several chances to further extend their lead but were met by a stern Letacek who made numerous stops. In the 42nd minute though, Samu Lino scored the third goal, cutting inside the box with his left foot to finish with his right. Uche could have pulled one back on the stroke of half-time but his shot went narrowly wide.

In the second half, Correa and Sorloth scored to end the scoring in a match in which the red and whites dominated from start to finish without giving their opponents a chance.

The Metropolitano once again experienced a great night of Copa actions and enjoyed their team's entertaining victory. Atlético de Madrid, cup winners on ten occasions, will once again play in the semi-finals of the most exciting tournament in Spanish football.

This Wednesday, Butarque is due to host the duel between CD Leganés and Real Madrid CF at 21:00 (Movistar+). The quarter-finals will end in style on Thursday with a double bill of matches that will decide the last semi-finalists of this 24/25 edition of the competition. Real Sociedad de Fútbol and CA Osasuna open the evening at the Reale Arena at 19:30 (Movistar+) and two hours later the spotlight will move to Valencia for the duel between Valencia and FC Barcelona (21:30 | La 1).
