A decade after his last match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium, Ayoze Pérez once again steps onto the pitch of his home ground. This time, he returns as a European champion for the final group-stage match of the UEFA Nations League.
“It’s been many years since I last played here, and I have wonderful memories. Having the chance to play here is the greatest thing. It’s the best thing one could ask for. Coming back representing Spain is the ultimate honour,” the forward admitted.
Among the thousands of fans present at the national team’s charity training session for the victims of the storms were the parents of the Spanish striker, both proud to see their son celebrated by the crowd.
